Did you transform the once dog-worn carpeted stairs into a polished DIY project despite being a novice trim carpenter?

The person who owned this place before us clearly let their dogs treat these carpeted stairs like a bathroom. I couldn’t stand the half wall, so we agreed this would be our first big DIY project in the house. I’m not exactly a pro at trim carpentry, so I’ll be happy once these stairs are finally done. It’s definitely been a learning curve.
This is looking great! What type of posts are those and how did you secure them to the step? What other elements are you planning to add? Excited to see the final result.
Mentioned the newels are made of red oak. She bleached them to get rid of the pink so they would somewhat match the white oak treads.
She used zip bolts to attach everything except for the landing newel posts, which have two GRK lags in them. The zip bolt system is quite impressive. It may be a bit pricey for hardware, but it ensures a super tight lock.
All that’s left to do is plug the holes, apply the Bona Natural sealer, and some Bona HD. Then she will finish off with black iron balusters.
After that, she plans to move on to the guest bathroom.
