Could switching to propane allow my Oil-fired system to run my HW heater, Heat, and AC all at once? What would be eliminated with this change?

Hey, does anyone here have experience with HVAC systems?

I’m not too knowledgeable about it, but here’s my situation. Right now, I have an oil-fired system for my hot water heater and heat. It’s a forced-air system. The air conditioning runs on electricity, but it still goes through the same furnace to the ducts.

If I were to switch to propane, would it be able to run all three functions? And what would be eliminated in the process? I’m assuming the furnace would still be necessary, right?

To switch, you’d have to replace the furnace and water heater (or switch to electric for the water heater).

Wondering why the change?

Oil to gas conversion burners are an option. Otherwise, you’d need to replace both your water heater and furnace. The air conditioning will still run on electricity.

What state are you located in? Have you thought about using an Air Source Heat Pump for heating and cooling along with a heat pump water heater? Heat pumps are more efficient and cost-effective compared to oil and propane.
