Can the top of this old breakfast nook table be unlocked and rotated if it appears to be soldered in place?

I’m thinking about giving this old breakfast nook table a makeover. I heard that the top should unlock and rotate, but it seems like it’s stuck in place. Does anyone have experience with these tables? Is there a way to fix it?
Maybe down at the floor? Everything seems quite fixed in place to me.
If I can’t reverse the soldering/welding (or if it’s too much of a hassle) I’ll probably just pivot from the base
Yep, that’s welded & you can cut the weld using an angle grinder or a torch. However, the bolt patterns seem mismatched, indicating that this top & bottom don’t actually go together, which is why they are welded. I’m not even certain what that round object on top is, at first sight I thought it resembled a car brake drum. Best of luck with your endeavor!
I actually observed the same thing after I made the post. I’m curious about what a working table should be like. It’s good to know that the welding can be reversed…but then I guess the question is what to do next 🤷🏻♀️ thanks!
If you are simply looking to refinish it, you could detach the top from the base.
Was really looking forward to getting it back to working properly. Planning on refinishing the top and brainstorming ideas for the base
That table is pretty cool. I hope you can get it working properly.
I appreciate it too!
It’s welded together. You’ll need to grind off the welds to loosen it up. Hopefully, the joints aren’t frozen.
Seems like the top is secured with flathead screws (?)…removing it for your refurbishing job might not only simplify the task…but also provide easier access to the base.
That’s a fantastic suggestion!
There are many different types of rotating table top mechanisms available. I would suggest purchasing a new one instead of attempting to detach the old one.
Thanks a lot! It’s great to be aware of this 😊
