Can the light switch not work if a DIY electrician ran a line for a plugin and light, and the light stays on regardless of the switch being hot, and can the plugin and light not be on the same line?

So, I tried to do some electrical work myself and ran a line for a plug and a light, but now the light switch isn’t working. It’s really hot, and the light stays on no matter what. Could it be that the plug and the light are not supposed to be on the same line? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Just a heads up, in Ontario you’re required to get a permit for any DIY electrical projects.

Just an FYI, if your house burns down, insurance may not fully cover you

I’m a bit lost, can you clarify what you’re saying? It sounds like you might need some assistance. Consider getting an electrician to prevent any accidents.
