Can pickled finish cabinets be refinished despite being told they cannot due to being beat up and dirty-looking?

What’s the best way to spruce up pickled cabinets that are in rough shape? I asked about refinishing them and was told it can’t be done with pickled finish cabinets. Is that really the case? I really want to freshen up these grimy cabinets!
Feel free to paint them if you want.
Hey , I appreciate your input! Any recommendations on the paint type? Also, what’s the most effective way to buff them before refinishing?
Hey there, for cabinet refinishing, you should check out those specialized groups. They have really helpful tips.
Thanks a lot!
Absolutely, you can.
Either remove all the stain and reapply, or consider painting them
Your finish broke down due to skin oil, most likely because it wasn’t professional-grade. The solution would be to strip and refinish or repaint. For painting, you would need to degrease, lightly sand, clean with denatured alcohol, apply 2 coats of bonding primer, followed by 2 coats of paint. For long-lasting results, use professional-grade primer and paint. Renner 643 and 851 paints are popular choices. Big thanks to !! I appreciate all the notes and will be joining the group!
Someone followed their process and used professional tools which turned out really well
I had cabinets that were pickled. I decided to refinish them. I struggled to completely remove the finish from the wood. But I really liked how they turned out. Let me try to upload a photo.

Thanks a bunch! Is there any way I could see the before pictures? Also, what did you use to remove the finish?
Hey there, Joe! How long has it been since you recorded? Have you noticed any chipping?
So this anonymous participant used citristrip. It’s been ages, you know? Like, way back before we all had cell phones with cameras. I’ll check if I have a picture in the album from when the house was being built.
Couldn’t find any good pictures to use. What I can say is that they were Merillat cabinets purchased from Lowes back in 1989 or 1990.
Just an anonymous participant, you know? We had trouble agreeing on how to finish the ends of it. They’re totally unique. Not sure if that’s useful or not.
Appreciate it! Are you referring to the guidelines provided by experts on painting kitchen cabinets?
I’m dealing with a similar problem with my cabinets, although mine don’t have a wooden appearance. I started off with the 1-2-3 bin primer. I removed a drawer front, painted it with a color matched flat paint, and then applied three coats of polyurethane for protection. The texture is a bit different, but the result is satisfactory.

Your floors look amazing, ! So clean and fresh! How long has it been since you last refinished them?
Just a few months as an anonymous participant. If the polyurethane starts to wear off, I’ll just re-apply it instead of having to prime and paint.
How about giving liquid sandpaper a shot?
Is exploring all the possibilities before starting. Re-staining is one of the options he’s considering. He’s just seeking advice from those who have done it before to determine the best approach. He also wants to hear from those who refinished their floors a while ago about the longevity of the refinished floors. Nervous about making a mistake 😝
An anonymous participant mentioned that we should be updated on the outcome regardless of what you decide. I’m intrigued now
