Can I use retaining wall blocks with a lip on top of existing brick for fixing a leaning retaining wall?

Hey, so I’ve got this brick retaining wall that needs some fixing. The top part is starting to bulge out and lean over, but the base seems okay. I was thinking about using those retaining wall blocks that have the lip on the back edge – you know the ones I mean, right? So, I would basically take down the brick wall until we just have one or two bricks at the bottom, and then build the new retaining wall on top of that. Does that sound like a feasible plan to you?

How much weight is it supposed to support? I’ve never seen a retaining wall made out of that type of block. But that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. The blocks with the lip you mentioned will start to step back as you move up. The previous owner used them in our backyard and they’re holding back a lot of soil.
