Can I salvage the extra inch left on the wall from the previous 5-inch backsplash when installing new 4-inch butcher block countertops in my kitchen?

I’m in the process of updating the countertops in my kitchen. Right now, the backsplash is about 5 inches high, but the new butcher block countertops we’re installing come with a backsplash that’s only 4 inches. I’m wondering if there’s anything we can do with that extra inch of wall space left over from removing the old backsplash?

Typically, tile is the go-to material for backsplashes. Have you chosen a different option?

We also have butcher block that matches the countertops, but it is one inch shorter than what is currently there!

Above the 5-inch mark, what can be found on the wall?

Slobodan Stefanović

There’s just the wall!

Do you see a 1-inch hole or gap in the wall? The counters are how long?

Extend a solid backsplash up to the cabinets starting from the top surface. Consider using tile, stamped metal, vinyl, or any other available options

Antoniya Gankevich

Tile the backsplash and make sure it’s covered

Rafael Wheeler

Can you tile or trim the top edge to complete the project?
