Can I replace this seal with a different type or does it have to be metal like it is now?

How can I go about changing this seal? Does it need to be the same metal one that’s in there now or can I switch it out for a different kind?

I recommend using a wooden one to mark the area behind it with chalk and then nailing it in place.

There are several different varieties available, so take a look at your local home improvement store and choose the one that best fits your door.

This is attached to the door stop while the door is shut. It can be adjusted using the slots.

Hey Jeff, I think this is the best approach. Make sure to cut it to the right size and miter the inside corners. Be careful not to cut all the way through the rubber seal. Leave it about half an inch longer than the extrusion to account for shrinkage in the cold weather. Mark the screw locations, then add a small amount of exterior-grade caulk to the aluminum back just inside the screw locations before attaching it to the closed and locked door.

This one sticks on by itself… and it comes in various thickness options.

I’m going to switch out my spring bronze.

I usually add a kerf like this, close the door, and attach something similar on the outside. This way, if the kerf gets damaged, you can easily replace the inserts.
