Can I repaint my white brick fireplace surround with a different color paint without needing fire retardant paint?

I’m thinking about painting the white brick around my fireplace a different color. Do I need to use fire retardant paint for this, or can I use any type of paint?

There are a variety of high heat paint options available at the auto parts store. They are currently priced at around $14 per spray can. Additionally, Coleman lanterns and stoves come in a few heat resistant color options. Just keep in mind that you may notice a smell when you first use the paint near a flame.

You are able to utilize standard paint. Just ensure there are no flammable materials present

Just stick to using masonry paint.

If it’s already painted, just add another coat (water-based, please). If it hasn’t been painted yet, I suggest using a primer for masonry surfaces first. After priming, any water-based paint will do the job.
