Can I repaint by just applying primer and paint over existing paint, considering that I will be replacing broken slates and corner trim soon due to hail damage?

Hey, I’m thinking about repainting. Can I just use primer and paint over the current paint? I’m also planning on replacing any broken or old slates and corner trim and caulking them.
Our roof and fascia got damaged by hail, so they will be replaced soon.
Yes
If the paint is in good condition, go ahead and paint over it. I’ve never witnessed hail causing damage to a slate roof. Do you happen to have any pictures of the damaged slate?
Hey, just to clarify, it’s actually asphalt shingles that will be replaced with Class 4
You don’t have to prime unless you’re working with raw wood. If you’re replacing the fascia, then I recommend oil priming before painting.
The fascia and roof are being worked on by contractors. It’s 2 stories in the front and 3 stories in the back. They have all the necessary equipment and scaffolding
Sounds good, go ahead with the painting, but if there’s any bare wood, make sure to apply oil primer first. You don’t have to prime over existing paint though
By the way, that gutter appears to be in poor shape
Yeah, the gutters will be replaced as well
