Can I paint mismatched gold hinges to match the door color without removing them?

I don’t know why the person who built or owned this place did it, but it’s kind of funny that every door has gold hinges that don’t match the silver or nickel handles. Do you think there’s a way to paint the hinges the same color as the door without having to remove them?
I suggest not painting the hinges because the movement of the hinges may cause the paint to chip. Also, personally, I find it tacky. Instead, consider changing the color to match the door hardware.
You have the option to swap out each hinge individually, without having to remove the entire door.
Has the solution, this is how it’s done.

Changed the knobs to an upgraded style, but kept the hinges as they are. You can replace each hinge separately while keeping the doors in place.
Yeah, but it’s simpler to change the knobs.
I’m a fan. It gives a nice touch.
You can find hinges for $3.77 on Amazon. It’s worth switching them out.
When you’re replacing hinges, do it one at a time to make sure the door stays put. It’s easy and painting them can be messy.
The simple answer is no. You should either change the knobs to match the hinges or the hinges to match the knobs. And if you’re opting to replace the hinges, remember to bring one with you to the store so you don’t end up with the wrong ones, like hinges with square corners instead of round corners, or hinges that are smaller/larger.
They likely did what I did…swapped out all the old ugly brass doorknobs…but forgot about the hinges. Amazon sells packs of hinges at a decent price. You can switch out each hinge individually (not all 3 at once), and you won’t need to remove the door.
Paint may come off easily from hinges when they move. It might only last a month or two. The best approach would be to replace the hinges or knobs altogether. You could opt to change the hinges individually, but keep in mind that the screw holes may not align properly. Also, ensure you purchase hinges of the same size (available in 3″, 3.5″, and 4″, so measure beforehand.)
Hinges can easily be replaced, so consider doing one at a time if needed.
Haha, do you realize that is precisely the reason they didn’t swap out the hinges? It’s more cost-effective and simpler. They probably didn’t find it bothersome. If it’s an issue for you, go ahead and change the hinges. All you’ll need is a Phillips head screwdriver.
They might have requested the doors with nickel hinges to coordinate them. It’s likely a spec home though so attention to detail wasn’t a priority as you mentioned. Lack of planning though
I think they swapped out the doors and those aren’t the original ones for the frame.
I don’t know much about the details, but the painted hinges in our military rental have been looking great for the year and a half we’ve been living here!
If the old knobs bother you, consider changing them when switching to prehung doors with nickel hinges.
I would just swap out the hinges. They can be bought for a reasonable price. Replace one hinge at a time with a block under the door if necessary. It only takes a few minutes per door.
I recently began exchanging the handles and then noticed the hinges. I went ahead and purchased a large pack on Amazon. I also figured that since I’m already removing everything, I might as well give the doors a fresh look by painting them. This small project escalated quickly. 😄
I decided to paint my hinges without removing the door. I tackled one hinge at a time to ensure the door was still supported by two hinges. I used matte black spray paint and sanded in between coats. After applying about 3 coats on each side, I also painted the screws. It’s been a year and my hinges still look great without any chips. Not sure how long it will hold up though.
Get a bulk pack of nickel hinges from Amazon. Replace them one by one while the door is still attached. Pay attention to the placement of the hinge pins. Top-notch advice.
