Can I apply a coating to smooth out my rough basement floor after painting it, and do people commonly paint their walls as well?

I recently painted my basement floor and it feels a bit rough. Is there a specific coating I can apply to seal it and make it smoother for cleaning with a swiffer or mop? Also, do people typically paint their walls as well?
If you want to add texture, consider using a mop instead of a swiffer for this antislip coating.
Thanks for sharing that idea, !
Painting concrete with a rough finish is a good idea to prevent slipping. A smooth finish can be too slick and increase the risk of falling.
If you want the paint to last, consider using a durable product like rock hard. Standard paint may chip and peel over time. Personally, I’ve had success with rock solid paint and adding extra flakes for texture. The key is to create a rough surface, so it’s not slippery when wet.
I’ll need to take a photo of the paint, but it’s designed for basement floors.
You could give it a shot, but based on my experience, unless it’s a chemical reaction, it probably won’t last. Unfortunately.
No worries, it should do the job for now. I can always fix it up if necessary. That’s what I was advised to use.
Drylok is great for cement walls
Thanks a bunch!
To clean it up, you can try using a rough mop or a scrubber like a scrub daddy before applying the top coat or a second coat if needed.
That’s not going to help. The floor should have been prepped before painting. The only way to achieve a smooth finish would have been with a thick layer of epoxy. But it’s too late for that now.
Alright, it’s a bit too late now, so the paint might end up drying a bit bumpy. Adding a little water can help smooth it out.
I did everything correctly, but you assumed without checking with me first. I used non-slip paint on the floor, which is why it’s rough. I’m looking into adding a top coating, but I want to make sure it won’t make the floor slippery.
You seem to be assuming that I don’t have knowledge about this topic and haven’t completed over 500,000 sq ft of designer concrete floors.
Haha what? You’re the one who mentioned the floor needed preparation before painting but you never inquired if it was done. Take another look at what you previously stated before debating. I never said “you don’t know what you’re doing”
I noticed it wasn’t completed or if it was, it wasn’t completed properly.. hope you enjoy the floor
Oh man, it’s crazy how some people show up just to argue and put others down, especially in a diy home group. Yikes, buddy.
Hey, I was actually replying to someone else’s comment. You didn’t really need to engage. Enjoy your floor, it looks great!
Hey, this is my post and my floor you were talking about. You came to my post just to make negative assumptions about my home. How about trying to be supportive instead of being so negative? It might work out better for you sometime.
Jumping to conclusions? You’re way off track… Like I said, enjoy the floor
Really overreacts sometimes. If you don’t want someone to respond to what you’ve said, it’s best not to say it at all. It’s so hypocritical to preach one thing and then turn around and do the same thing.
Hey Gabrielle, I hope everything goes well with your painting! I’m not a professional, but I’ve done a lot of painting and sometimes I’ve noticed the paint coming out a bit rough. I’m not sure if it’s the brand of paint or the prep work. Someone recommended using a Stainless Steel Spiral Scour/Scrubber to help smooth things out. I wasn’t a fan of the marks it left behind and having to apply multiple thick coats. I had better results with a firmer scrub daddy. Maybe a combination of both would work well. It helps get rid of those fine bumps if that’s the issue.
Thank you, ! Your advice is greatly appreciated.
Rustoleum has a recoat primer that can be used over any paint, in case you decide to switch paints or go for epoxy. But honestly, I think it looks fantastic!
Thanks a lot! I’ll keep that in mind for next time. I swept the floor thrice, mopped it twice, then used a primer to prep the floors before painting twice. I really put in a lot of effort, but if it doesn’t hold up, I’ll definitely try your suggestion!
Wow, it turned out amazing! I’m sure it’ll hold up well!
Which type of paint did you apply
Topher, I was told to use this.
It’s true, some people also choose to paint their walls.
I wasn’t sure if it might seem odd or not lol
Oh gotcha haha, so are they done walls or still just concrete
