Can I add an exterior outlet for an RV hookup without breaking the bank, considering the outdated wiring in my 1960s home?

Customer asked if it would cost a lot to install an exterior outlet for an RV hookup while their cousin stays in an RV on their side yard. Not at all! We just need to do a panel upgrade and replace all the old wiring from the 1960s to make sure your house is safe. You’re a first-time homeowner in Santa Ana, California, right? Your house was built in the early 60s and has a confusing mess of old wiring.
Onna cost you more to rebuild your house if you stick with those panels.

And can you believe that Federal Pacific breakers are still sought after at breaker resale shops? It’s surprising!
Just tear it down!
Federal Pacific – not a good choice!
I encountered a situation where the main panel was upgraded but the sub panel still had old wiring, shaking my head.
I actually have quite a collection of fpe panels that I like.
Apparently Santa Ana is moving towards panels that can be powered from underground, even if they currently use overhead lines. Seems like they’re planning to underground all utilities in the future… 🙄
Experienced this recently with 2 different homes on Balboa Island.
I’m thinking a panel replacement might be a good idea for liability reasons. If you use an outdated breaker and it malfunctions, you could be held accountable. But is rewiring necessary when changing the panel? Is it a local regulation?
