Can damaged window lifts be easily repaired or must we replace them to prepare our house for sale?

So, my furry troublemakers have chewed up the handles on four of our windows. Do you know of a quick fix for this, or should we just go ahead and replace the windows? We’re looking to sell the house soon, and we want to get this sorted before any inspections.

You can include a repair contingency in your offer for closing. And if the windows are old, they may want to replace them all.

Noted it’s a relatively new 2015 build.

If you have a vinyl window, you can order just the lower sash. Also, if it’s a vinyl double hung window, there should be a label in the top frame.

Mentioned they are double hung vinyl windows.

Check the top sash for a label on the right side of the frame with a serial number, window size, and sometimes the manufacturer’s name.

Sure thing, Wayne! I’ll take a look and get back to you. Thanks!

Pull the sash….grind or cut off any leftover lift handle. Use some 220 sandpaper to clean it up. Finish it off with a coat of light oil. Unfortunately, the only solution is to replace the sash, but it can be done.
