Can cabinets be painted instead of replaced for a new color?

Hey, do you happen to know if it’s possible to paint cabinets instead of having to replace them if I want a different color?
Take a look at Heirloom Traditions all-in-one paint. They even have a website with tutorials.
I recently finished painting my cabinets, switching the color from grey to a deep shade of blue. I started off by using a shellac based primer, applying one coat before moving on to the Behr Trim and Cabinet paint which is specifically made for melamine surfaces and becomes durable once fully cured. I’m really pleased with how they turned out.
Make sure to use a shellac based primer as the key for good paint adhesion. No need to sand!
Yes, sanding is necessary.
That’s not accurate, you should sand them first and between coats!
Actually, you don’t need to sand. I’ve used this combo before and there was no chipping or flaking.
I’m happy to hear that it worked out for you
You totally have the ability to accomplish this, but the real question is how you want the final result to look and hold up. This particular group might not be the most ideal for painting cabinets. Another great option is Kitchen Cabinet Painting Experts. I specialize in cabinet painting for a living, so I can offer my assistance. The process involves cleaning them first, followed by sanding, priming, and then painting. The top-notch products that professionals use include Milesi, Renner, Envirolak, etc. The downside is that you may need to place an order for them. Some good DIY-friendly paints are BM advance, BM Command, and BM cabinet coat. I would recommend avoiding anything you can purchase at Home Depot or Lowe’s, such as Behr. Definitely steer clear of Heirlooms paint. However, if you’re okay with a less than perfect finish and just want to get the job done, you can use whatever you prefer. Spraying will give you the best finish, but I understand that many people may not have experience with using a sprayer.
They can definitely be painted. If it’s within your budget, I highly suggest hiring a professional for an excellent, long-lasting finish. However, it is possible to do it yourself with the right products and patience.
Why not join the cabinet painting group? They offer expert advice and support.
Resurfacing face panels in 2pac is a great idea. I suggest going for a satin finish and playing around with colors to complement your flooring and benchtop. This was a project we recently completed for a client. Just make sure to treat the panels properly before applying the final finish. 😊
You absolutely have the option to change colors. The industry is full of professionals doing just that. Come on board with the Kitchen Cabinet Painting Experts group – they’ve got all the prep, primer, paint, and equipment you’ll need.
Feel free to paint them. Just make sure to use the right kind of paint. For the best outcome, consult with a paint store.
You need to tread carefully with that because unfortunately, many paint store employees might not actually know what they’re talking about
Choosing to paint is a more cost-effective option compared to replacing them. Consider hiring a professional for the job.
I’ve painted my shutters three times. Once you begin painting them, you’re bound to repaint, in my view. At least every few years.

Na Wells Wow! This didn’t even cost $50 for the HTP!
I’m actually considering painting my kitchen!
Na Wells, I started with one bathroom cabinet and then thought why not do the whole kitchen! Haha I’ve moved since then, but that just means I can paint a new kitchen now. 😁
Hey , I recently transformed an IKEA cabinet into Capri! Put on some new legs and added handles
Hey , your color choices are amazing!
Na Wells That’s funny, I was just thinking the same thing! I’m actually planning to paint my kitchen soon, and I absolutely loved how my bathroom turned out with this paint color!
What paint color did you end up choosing? It turned out really nice!
Hey, thank you! I went with Stonehenge for most of the cabinets, but that one white upper cabinet on the right is Colosseum. I thought it was a bit too white, so I switched to Stonehenge for the rest. Haha
Na Wells It’s simply perfect!
YAY! I was really hoping you’d like it! It’s the exact color I chose for my kitchen.
I absolutely love this shade of gray!
I’m not sure I understand the question. Are you asking about replacing or painting two different things?
Avoid using Molyneax, it’s not a good product!
As a professional painter, I want to advise you not to just use a shellac primer. You could try using liquid sandpaper to get rid of the sheen, but after going through the trouble of cleaning the surfaces and using liquid sandpaper, you might realize it would have been easier to just sand them down.
Sand them down, apply shellac primer, lightly sand, use a high-quality paint (I personally recommend emerald from SW), lightly sand again, paint, and maybe consider a third coat if needed. The number of coats will depend on how well the previous ones adhere.
I recommend spraying the doors, but you could also roll them with a foam roller for a finish similar to spraying.
Best of luck!
People often think you need to go all out when painting cabinets, but that’s not necessary at all. Have you checked out All-In-One Paint by Heirloom Traditions? I’ve used it on kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, dressers, a fireplace, a church pew, a storm door, stair railings… pretty much everything!
You have the ability to paint cabinets! Just remember to follow the process and steps involved. Research the current finish on your cabinets and what you want to achieve, and you’ll be good to go.
You have the option to swap out doors.
