Can anyone provide guidance on how to fix non-functional mini blinds in 35-year-old Pella windows without risking damage to the knob or glass?

Hey there, can you lend a hand? I’ve got some Pella windows that are 35 years old with mini blinds in between the glass. The blinds are not functioning properly, but I think I could repair them myself. The problem is that while there are clips to remove the glass, the knob used to raise/lower the blinds seems to be stuck and won’t come off. We’re a little hesitant to apply too much force without knowing for sure if it’s removable. We reached out to Pella for help, but they were not very helpful and seemed to end the call abruptly.

To lower the risk of damaging the knob, try using a flat, slender tool like a V-shaped pry bar. Something as thin as a set of bendable spatulas. Alternatively, you could use two plastic knives on each side. The knob might be fragile due to aging and sun exposure, but replacements are likely available for purchase.

Checked out Pella blinds knob on Google. Looks like the knob might come off easily and the stem is secured by a screw.

We encountered a similar problem with a Pella French wood sliding door. The string broke on one of the blinds. They asked for a whopping $400+ to replace one set of blinds, despite knowing both sets would need replacement due to color fading. No blind company wanted to make just one to match. Outrageous. So we took down both sets of blinds and opted for some amazing insulated curtains from Costco at a bargain. Then the small plastic latch that holds the retracting screen in place fell off. Probably a $1 part. They asked for $42 and I had to go pick it up in North Jersey. And then they misplaced the order. Had enough of #PellaHella.

Replacing the glass without built-in blinds is the way to go. You’ll just face the same issue in a year or two if you don’t.

You could use a screwdriver to gently pry the clips
