Can anyone offer advice on connecting a new sink top and faucet to a condenser drain in a bathroom setup with a too-long drain pipe?

Hey there, can anyone offer some advice on plumbing? I recently installed a new sink and faucet, but the drain that came with the faucet is too long. I ordered a shorter one, but it’s still about an inch and a half too long. To make things more complicated, my condenser drain connects to my bathroom drain. Any suggestions on how I can connect the plumbing properly?
The pipe is made so you can customize the length by cutting it. Trimming the bottom where the trap attaches won’t cause any damage. Trim the end of the black pipe
It appears the lower one is positioned incorrectly. Turn it over.
The tailpiece is the term for the black pipe. You will need to cut it to the appropriate length.
Hey , I appreciate your help! Naming things can be tricky sometimes! 🤣
Trim it to the correct size.
Remove the white section from the black pipe and put it back together. Highlight where to cut the black pipe above the condensate drain. Ensure the bevel washer on the black pipe has the skinny part inside the white pipe.
If necessary, simply push up on your tail piece and trim it if it doesn’t fit on the black pipe anymore. Cut off approximately 1 1/2 inches from your black tail piece
Just an fyi, sinks have drains but faucets are connected to sinks through plumbing. Just thought you should know 😊 The black drain tail piece should be cut to the appropriate length. It fits into the white piece and is secured with a compression nut/ring. It seems like you have some room to adjust the length of the tail piece within the white part. Trimming it down is not too complicated since it’s a slip fit and designed to allow for some flexibility.
Thanks a lot! ❤ I’m still in the process of learning all the correct terminology!
Using the ‘proper’ language is important for effective communication and improved problem-solving. I always promote this in my classes. It’s best to stick to industry standards and steer clear of local or personal slang. Although I must admit, I can be a bit of a perfectionist about it at times …
Trim the black pipe to the appropriate length using a hack saw
It’s better to have the pipe too long than too short. You’ll need to use a hacksaw to adjust the length of the black pipe coming down from the sink (tail pipe) so that the P-trap is positioned correctly (just be careful not to make it too short). In the video you watched, the gasket washer was placed upside down, remember that the flat part should be against the nut and the beveled side should face the male threads. Make sure to use the flanged tailpiece washer between the top of the tailpiece pipe and the bottom of the sink basket. Check out this helpful video. Instead of plumbers putty, I now prefer using polyurethane caulk.

I stopped using plumbers putty because it tends to break down and fail over time.
After cleaning, make sure to gently polish both mating surfaces. I usually give them a light scuff with sandpaper as well.

I always use WD-40 and tons of paper towels to clean the top, and I also enjoy wiping down the bottom with my finger.
Wow, thanks a ton! ❤ I’m just about to start watching the video and double-check everything. I’ll look into the gasket washer that you mentioned is upside down (once I understand what it is 😄) Do you think I have the flanged tailpiece washer on (above the gold nut)?
Trim it down
Trim the black pipe… just kidding.
Just head to your neighborhood hardware store and grab a hand saw to cut the new black pipe to match the length of the old silver pipe. It’s a simple task, but feel free to reach out if you need any help!
Thanks! I’m going to attempt to trim it down. I have a Dremel saw.
Trim the black tail piece, flip the white seal, and move the rest upwards.
Of course, you can definitely trim the tailpiece that’s hanging down from the sink. Just disconnect it first. Then, connect the remaining pieces together, aligning them with the tailpiece and marking where to make the cut. You may need to remove it from the sink to do so. After cutting, simply reassemble it. It’s fine to trim it as long as it’s below the stopper assembly.
I’m so glad it’s long enough. It can be tricky to extend them if they’re too short.
Absolutely!
Only trim the black tailpiece under your drain to the length you need, leave the white one as is
Why don’t you check the sizes before placing your order?
Hey , I’m new to replacing sinks and faucets too. I didn’t realize there were so many sizes to consider when I bought the faucet. It’s been a learning process. Thanks for the assistance!
Simply cut it
Trim the black pipe below the sink a bit shorter
Thanks a lot, everyone! ❤ I wasn’t sure how much I could trim it!! I’m planning to give it a go today. I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out! Sending good vibes!
Shorten the length of the black pipe.
Trim it down
LOL has anyone brought up trimming the tailpiece? It’s funny how once someone suggests the right solution, the next 50 people chime in with the same thing as if it’s necessary, right?
I really hope she decided to trim it 😂
You know, a lot of people might leave a comment without checking the other comments first, or they just don’t bother reading them because they’re busy with other things
Feel free to shorten it up a bit.
