Can anyone identify the purpose of this black pipe and if it can be cut down to floor level during a basement finishing project?

Hey there! Can someone assist me in figuring out what this black pipe is and what it’s used for? Can it be cut down to floor level when we finish the basement? Thanks so much!
Seems like some sort of improvised clean out, which is strange because using a real clean out would have been simpler. Haha
Could that be a backflow preventer?
Brandon, I agree. It looks like an access tube to safeguard the Backflow Preventer during flatwork pouring.
Might be for a Radon vent… I actually have one in my basement, and it’s closed off. But if Radon was found, that’s where the Radon vent/pump would attach.
Why not ask the builder? 🤔
Hey, we’re meeting with tomorrow! I thought I’d do a bit of research before our meeting.
Has a few talents, one being skilled at taking photos. Remember to save them and jot down some notes.
Valve for preventing backflow of water
Asked about the concept of a ‘back water valve’ in a very simplified manner, as if explaining it to a 5-year-old, since he has no prior knowledge of the term.
Mentioned a valve that prevents water from flowing backwards. This can be really helpful in a flood situation.
Explained that a back water valve is essentially code for basement drains. It relates to the manhole elevation in relation to the fixtures in the basement. The valve should only be installed on the drains leading to the basement, not the entire house. This is crucial in preventing sewage from backing up into the basement in case of issues with the city main sewer line. It’s just a speculation as the picture is not very clear.
Hey , okay, that makes sense. I’ve never heard of one being used before. Are you assuming that pipe is for the basement floor drain? (I don’t see a P trap though, but the picture isn’t very clear). Thanks a lot! Should a basement bathtub also have one?
Hey , if it’s a bw valve, shouldn’t it be downstream of all basement drains?
You’ll need a backwater valve for the basement bathroom or laundry room, it’s a must-have in basements and required by building codes for new construction.
Hey , do you think it’s possible to cut these pipes so they’re flush with the floor when finishing the basement?
Yes, the black tube is trimmed to match the floor level and has a cap
That’s a waste pipe. It could be where a toilet or shower goes in the future.
Consider radon mitigation to keep your home safe and healthy.
Hey , have you thought about asking the plumber working on your house?
Just met with our builder! It turns out there is a backflow valve that needs to be installed as part of the bathroom rough-in. Appreciate the assistance from everyone!
Device used for generating flux
Seems like a breather, it’s used to prevent pipes from getting clogged up (similar to vapor locking)…
Seems like a cleanout in my opinion
