Can a TV mount be safely installed on an exterior wall in Iowa without risking water damage?

I’m currently in Iowa, dealing with snow and rain. Do you think it’s safe to install a TV mount on this wall? We only plan to watch TV outside, so it shouldn’t be too heavy. However, my husband is worried that drilling into the wall might cause water damage. There’s not much overhang, so we’re not sure what to do.

Build a plywood box, burn it with a torch, and apply 3/4 coats of poly. Use a TV mount from harbor freight and a budget-friendly smart TV from BJs or Walmart.

It’s interesting how some people heavily rely on TVs and other electronics for their daily life.
It’s not really my thing either, but nobody asked for our opinion on their yard activities.
You can technically put them anywhere, but it might not be the best idea. I won’t even consider attempting to move it. Plus, new TVs are not that difficult to move around – I have a 55-inch one that I can easily carry with one hand.
When drilling into the wall or siding, remember to seal the holes with silicone or another sealant. That should do the trick, like when they install cable in houses.
Install the mount and use silicone around the bolt heads for a tight seal. An awning over it would also be a good idea.
Ever thought of hanging a screen from the soffit and getting a projector for movie nights?
Consider removing some of the siding and adding a color-matched vinyl siding mounting block. You can insert a piece of 1x for extra support.
Secure the 1x to the wall and attach the mounting block on top. It’s similar to this. Check out a YouTube video on installing the mounting block.
How about framing a small outdoor bar with an open front? Weather won’t be a concern since it’s indoors. Just a thought.

There are outdoor TVs available, and you can secure the mount with silicone for added protection.
I usually avoid securing the siding too tightly to allow for flexibility. I would create a cutout in the siding to attach the mount, then add a piece of advantech painted to match the siding. Seal around it with flexible silicone and attach the TV mount directly to the advantech. There are some other great ideas here, but avoid mounting directly onto the siding.
We keep ours on a stand with wheels for easy movement.
