Can a hollow core door effectively span a 6-foot wide doorway on a barn door track?

Hello! I hope you’re having a good day 🙂
We’re thinking about putting up a barn door for a wide doorway that spans 6 feet.
Do you think it’s okay to use a hollow core door on a barn door track?
Thanks so much!
You could give it a try, but typically they’re too lightweight and not very effective
Oh I see how that could factor in. Thank you 🙂
Yes, solid wood doors are available for purchase.
I’ve made up my mind after going through these comments, thanks a lot 🙂
Check out local marketplace sites for solid wood doors if cost is a concern. I found a set of true divided light doors for a pocket door area I am working on by keeping an eye on NextDoor ads. The new doors were too expensive, so I waited and snagged a set from a remodel for only $70.
Hey , money isn’t really a problem for me, but I don’t like splurging on items that are overpriced when I can find similar ones for less. Thanks, I’m checking out the marketplace now haha
Absolutely. Heavy doors are more effective for this task.
Thanks ! I’ll definitely go with a sturdy door for this.
Could you possibly make it 2 doors that split in the middle?
That sounds like a pretty cool idea. How about getting a sturdy door and dividing it in half? We’ll definitely explore that suggestion, appreciate it! 🙂
I constructed a door for someone with a similar style and it turned out really nice. I purchased all the materials from Amazon and the cost was quite reasonable
Fantastic! Appreciate it! 🙂
Similar to this one but with twice the size. Just make sure to find a track that is long enough, and because I am particular, ensure the arrows are pointing towards each other haha
I’m not too happy with them. Hollow core might feel a bit springy against the wall and track.
I’m with you on that, definitely don’t want to deal with that kind of situation, it could be bothersome and cause some harm. Thanks a bunch 🙂
Sometimes my little one doesn’t function properly. It tends to warp!
Hey , thanks for the heads up! I’ll make sure to avoid that from now on. 🙂
