As a first-time first-generation homeowner, what is the most effective method for sealing the bottom of a bathtub to the tile floor – caulk or grout?

Hey there! So, as a new homeowner and first-generation one at that, I need some advice. What’s the best way to seal the bottom of a bathtub to the tile floor? I noticed there’s no caulk there, so I’m not sure if I should be caulking it or if it needs to be grouted again. Any suggestions?

Silicone in a light grey shade.

You can find sealant/caulking in grout colors at most major retailers.

Consider removing the grout and using silicone instead.

Is spot on

‘t grout around the tub. If possible, remove the grout and use silicone caulk in the same color. If not, temporarily seal the crack with clear silicone to prevent water from getting underneath.

When changing planes, always opt for silicone.

Silicone is the best option for keeping grout in place.

Consider using color match caulk or silicone.

I purchased flexible rubber quarter molding from Amazon. It adheres really nicely.

Grout won’t stick to the tub. You have the option to use color match caulk (available near the grout) or silicone. For a more stylish look, consider adding a small PVC trim piece and silicone.

Any joint that goes from one surface to another should be sealed with caulk.

100% pure silicone

It’s all silicone. Whether it’s clear or white, the choice is yours.
