As a DIY novice looking to paint a desk black for my daughter, should I strip the current paint or just sand it, and can I easily add tracks to the drawer that isn’t sliding smoothly?

Hey there! I’m new to DIY and currently working on a project for my daughter. I scored this desk on Marketplace and I’m thinking of painting it black. Do you think I should strip the current paint or just sand it down first? Also, the drawer is a bit wonky – it’s just wood sliding on wood, so it sticks. Would it be okay to add some tracks to fix that? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I think a light sanding before painting black would cover that up easily. Have you considered using paste wax on the drawers? It may not glide as smoothly as new tracks but it should work well.

You could sand it down a bit before painting, enamel paint is best for durability. Unfortunately, you can’t add tracks to it.
