Are you planning to connect the sink to the waste pipe at the 2 copper or the main hub when relocating it in this kitchen?

I’m moving the sink in this kitchen to the left in the picture. I’m so glad! Do you think I should connect it to the 2″ copper waste pipe, or should I try connecting it to the main hub instead?
Cutting with a saw on that old copper pipe will probably result in some leaky joints
So , are you heading to the hub? Have you already tried it?
Yes and yes
Hey , it seems like a lead connection. How can we link up?
Try replacing as many parts as possible, even if you don’t like the answer
You may come across copper to lead connectors. You might need to use a threading tool depending on the materials you choose to go with. Since it’s a drain and not pressurized, you can use pipe glues designed for metal joints.
Back to the answer you probably don’t want to hear…if it were up to me, I’d remove/dig out as much as I can. You’ll need to do it at some point anyway. The same goes for the lead pipe. The connections are all corroded. Give them a little shake or movement and they’ll start leaking.
Hey, so I stopped by the local hardware store and the guy there suggested cutting off the Hub and connecting a fernco straight to the cast iron and then to a 2-in PVC. What do you think?
Do you know how sturdy the iron pipe is? Considering its age, using a pressure coupling might cause it to collapse. A rubber coupling would only serve as a temporary solution at most.
Hey , 52 years young!
Hey there, ! Make sure to update as many things as possible, otherwise, you’ll end up with an even bigger problem next year. How many times are you willing to tackle this task?
It seems like you’re being a bit sarcastic with your question. Do you think it’s necessary to replace the entire main running out to the front of the house?
Here’s an old saying for you: “You always have the time and money to do it right the second time.” So, how many times do you want to keep fixing it?
Hey, I’m more than willing to do things the right way. I believe in taking preventative measures. Currently, I’m removing all the copper from my baseboard while my walls are open to be thorough. When I asked if you recommend replacing the entire Main, I was being serious and not sarcastic.
Sorry Ed, I can’t distinguish between a smile and a smirk in written posts. However, it’s important to do everything possible during the repairs. Using a rubber cuff for a quick fix may work temporarily, but that iron pipe is a disaster waiting to occur.
Before I go ahead and remove my main line, I decided to purchase a 50 ft snake camera from amazon. I plan on inspecting it thoroughly before making a decision.
Have you obtained a permit yet?
