Any DIY tips for repairing a scratched front door without having to replace it – can it be sanded and repainted?

We’ve got this lovely front door, but it got a bit scratched up by our dogs when they were younger. Do you have any ideas on how we can fix it without having to get a new door? Could we maybe sand it down and repaint it?
