The sound of a pipe clanging or making a banging noisy often occurs when a sink valve is shut off. When the valve closes the water comes to a sudden stop and this causes a short moment of high pressure, resulting in the banging noise.
Loose straps holding the pipe in place or straps placed too far apart may allow the pipe to move just enough to cause this noise. Adding additional straps when possible will help reduce this noise.
Another option is installing water hammer arrestors. They come in different sizes and shapes and are normally easy to install.
