Hey there! I recently found my old air compressor in storage and I’m looking to get it up and running again. Could you help me figure out the best way to connect it to power? Which plug should I use? I’ve also included some photos of the wires and the motor voltage strip for reference. Thanks in advance!

Use a 15amp socket

Bently Roy

You are unable to dispose of it

Not Certified or Listed for North America. It could pose a risk of fire and shock. Remember, Brown is live, blue is neutral. Verify with your insurance. In order to connect, you need to wire both as live to 240V. It’s designed for 50Hz. If you use 60Hz, it will generate more heat. It’s advisable not to connect this.

Trayton ammon just mentioned that he lives in Luton, England. I have no idea what they do there. lol.

Eileen Burke

Alright, I thought it was not applicable. My mistake. Just grab a 15A cap and you’re all set. Sounds good, right?

I mentioned earlier that the green wire is for ground and the remaining wires should be connected to a 2-pole breaker.

Carol Mitchelle

Why do we need two poles?

Georgia Stone

Mentions that the motor requires 240 volts

If you’re unsure, it’s always wise to seek help from someone with experience

If you’re located in the US, make sure to use a 6-20r outlet along with a corresponding 6-20p plug.

Logan Adams

You should contact your local electrician for their phone number… that’s the best course of action!

Jean Young

Brown indicates the live wire and blue represents the neutral wire

Chris Wagner

I’ve never given that a shot before, but now I’m curious to see if it actually works.

Since the motor isn’t thermally protected, you’ll require a 2 pole motor switch with the right thermal overloads, a 2 pole 30 amp breaker, and a 20 amp 250 volt plug. You might also consider hardwiring the motor to the thermal switch. A 20 amp breaker could work depending on the initial load.

Who’s in the UK, simply needs a 15 amp cord cap.

Louise Ward

If he’s in the UK, he’ll still require motor thermal protection. And whatever they use in the UK for cord and plug connection.

Serenity Owens

You’ll need an L6-20 20 amp twist lock wire cap and receptacle.

… the recommended approach is to enlist the services of a licensed electrician… you are dealing with the most hazardous city in the world, known as ELECTRI-CITY.. proceed with caution… Life is irreplaceable

Make sure you utilize Alternating Current.

Alexis Chan

Make sure to connect it to a motor starter.

Carol Mitchelle

‘ assumption?
DOL is likely to be acceptable.

Amy Roy

I would attach a 3-pin plug and test it that way. Alternatively, you might be aiming for a fused spur

Todd Frazier

For the 220v cord cap, you’ll need either a Nema 15 or 20 amp 3 wire.

In the UK, the cable colours are:
Brown: Line
Blue: Neutral
Yellow/reen: Earth/CPC.

Holly Phillips

It would be helpful if you could specify the countries you’re not in for clarity on your post.

Maeva Johnson

Consider using a contactor with a 220 vac coil to easily switch on and off.

Clyde Murphy

I see it’s listed at 50 hz, are you located in the states?
