How can I fix the gap where the corners of my island trim do not meet without starting from scratch and considering the smaller board that isn’t secured yet?

Hey, I’m looking for some advice on how to change the trim on my island. The boards weren’t cut at an angle, so the corners don’t quite meet. Any tips on how to fix this without having to start over? Just a heads up, the smaller board isn’t nailed down yet.
Trim a longer piece to fit the shorter side. Remember to sand, caulk, and paint.

The trim should be placed on top of the flooring to begin with.
I thought so too, , but the original trim was hidden under the flooring. I wanted to avoid redoing the flooring to correct it.
