How can a complete beginner easily move a large washer and dryer into the basement by removing an obstructing island, while saving money?

Hey there! So I’ve got this big washer and dryer that I need to bring down to the basement. But there’s a pesky island in the way. The stairs are on the window side, and I’m thinking about taking out the island, except for the part with the dishwasher, that can wait. I’m not exactly an expert at this stuff, but I’d like to give it a shot myself to save some cash. Any suggestions on how to do this and what tools I might need? Thanks a bunch!
Consider asking for recommendations for a reliable handyman or contractor who offers consultations at a reasonable flat fee. Clearly communicate your needs over the phone and request a DIY-focused consultation. Provide an overview of your project and ask for a bullet-point plan, focusing on the order of tasks and potential pitfalls. Take thorough notes and be prepared to stay on topic during the consultation. It might be beneficial to consult with the same individual for subsequent phases of your project, as they will already be familiar with your goals and could save you time and money in the long term. This will also establish a valuable contact for addressing any major issues that may arise during your project.
When moving the washer, make sure to secure the basket to prevent damage. Most washer accidents occur when the appliance is tilted while going up or down stairs, causing the spindle to break off. Measure all clearances along the route, and consider renting an appliance dolly. If you’re physically capable and have a friend to assist, it shouldn’t be too difficult.
