Any suggestions for raising the height of a trashcan to match the step so I can easily access it in our small space?

Hey guys, throwing it out to the group – anyone have thoughts on how I can raise this trashcan to be level with the step? Living in a super small space here and this is the only spot for it. Any suggestions on how to make it more accessible for me to step on?

Try placing a block underneath to support it…

Mansur Abbink

Or you could add some 2x4s and plywood to make the step longer

Create a foundation for it using lumber. You might consider painting it to coordinate with the floor or walls.

Purchase 3 8x8x16 pumice blocks from Home Depot!!

Lilly Hall

Construct a wooden box for it 😃

If I had better design skills, I could really excel in this group 3D printing. But a simple box like the one suggested would still do the trick for you.

Consider grabbing a plastic storage box and placing it on the step, then adding a piece of wood to extend it beyond the house step. You can think of it like pedal extenders for cars. Another option is to build and extend the actual house step all the way to the corner. Or you could opt for a trash can with a motion sensor lid. These are my suggestions for you. Good luck!

Consider using a cinder block as a cost-effective and simple solution.

Hey , that’s actually a great idea. Two blocks would be just perfect. 🙂

Hey , you could try spray painting them for a fun twist!

It’s like a box made of wood or plastic, but with one side open for easy storage – perfect for keeping things like garbage bags handy. Win-win!

Rudger Embregts

Purchase some 2×4’s and create a base for it to be placed on.

Check out Amazon for a wooden step that matches your required dimensions. See attached image for guidance. Price is reasonable, ranging from $25 to $30.

You could also use a few Amazon boxes taped together as a cheaper alternative. (Just kidding) Personally, I prefer a platform with a lip to prevent the can from sliding off. You can easily create one using 2x2s and adding trim for the lip.

A concrete block from a store like Lowe’s or Home Depot could be the perfect solution

It might be simpler to find a new trashcan with a locking lid that has a lever or bar for lifting the lid and securing it back in place. I can even open it with my elbow when my hands are full 🙂

We specifically raised our trashcan off the ground to prevent the dogs from peeing on it 🙄

Construct your own wooden pedestal that matches the height of the stairs

There are also trash cans available with touchless lids that open when you wave your hand in front of a sensor on top. It could be a great option without taking up any extra space on the floor. Also, keep in mind that whatever you construct might impact the way the door opens. Best of luck!
